are you honouring your career values?

For me, I don’t need to be the boss but I can’t trade independence, honesty and integrity. That’s why I’m here.

But, what are your key career values and are you honouring them?

I’ve heard it said, and agree 100%, that we start jobs because of specific skills and abilities but leave jobs because they no longer match our career values.

When our values are challenged at work, we get edgy. Even worse, when these are our non-tradeable, non-negotiable values, we can become sick with stress and discomfort. Perhaps that’s because we can also perceive time wasted on a role that didn’t tick the boxes.

Of course there are some great workarounds, like seeing the positives and ‘not taking things too seriously’, but ultimately, knowing and being able to articulate your non-tradeable values is a real game-changer.

For young people it could save years of heartache, bouncing in and out or unwanted roles. For those, considering transition, a thorough exploration of your career values can be just the right catalyst for some serious, confident decision-making.
